Johns Manville Attic Insulation Nationwide

Johns Manville Attic Insulation: The Cupertino Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Johns Manville-compatible blown-in fiberglass and batt insulation for Cupertino attics, with most residential jobs running between $2,800 and $5,400 installed depending on square footage and whether the attic floor needs air sealing first. Same-day service is available when we have your R-value and coverage area on the phone. Most Cupertino homeowners discover their Johns Manville insulation is failing when PG&E bills spike in July or they find hot second-floor bedrooms that were comfortable five years ago, especially in the older Rancho Rinconada splits and the foothill homes near Monta Vista where original blown-in settled below the joist tops years ago.

Which Johns Manville Models This Applies To

Johns Manville produces several attic insulation lines you’ll find in Cupertino homes. The Climate Pro blown-in fiberglass, common in tract builds from 2008 to 2018, is identifiable by the white-and-green bag labeling and a settled density around 0.5 pounds per cubic foot. The Spider custom-fit blown-in system, used in some higher-end Monta Vista and Permanente area builds, requires specific blowing equipment and cannot be topped off with standard loose-fill without creating thermal bridges at the application boundary. The Kraft-faced batt line, often found in knee walls and attic hatches, carries a vapor retarder that fails when the paper facing tears or delaminates in our dry Santa Clara County summers.

To identify what you have, check for a bag remnant in the attic corner or a stapled specification sheet on the rafter. The R-value per inch, the product code prefix (CP for Climate Pro, SP for Spider), and the installation date matter for matching. We do not require you to use Johns Manville OEM for replacement; in most Cupertino attics, an equivalent R-value blown-in from Owens Corning or Knauf performs identically once the air sealing is complete. We stock Johns Manville-compatible material on our trucks, but we are an independent service provider with no affiliation to Johns Manville.

Signs Your Johns Manville Attic Insulation Is Failing

Signs Your Johns Manville Attic Insulation Is Failing
  • Uneven temperature between rooms. When Climate Pro settles or gets disturbed by wiring work, it leaves thin spots above hallways and interior walls. The ceiling feels warm to the touch in August, and your thermostat fights a losing battle.
  • Ice damming or moisture staining at the eaves. This means warm air is reaching the roof deck, usually because the insulation no longer covers the top plate or because bypasses at the wall-ceiling junction were never sealed. In Cupertino’s occasional winter rains, this shows up as dark rings on the drywall.
  • Visible joists or bare spots in the attic floor. Blown-in fiberglass loses loft over 10 to 15 years. If you can see the tops of your 2×10 joists, you’re looking at an R-value that has dropped by a third or more from the original specification.
  • Dusty indoor air and worsening allergies. Failed insulation often means failed air sealing. Attic particulates, including old cellulose fragments or rodent activity, get pulled into the living space through gaps the insulation used to cover.
  • PG&E bills climbing year over year with no rate change. A blower-door test we ran last month on a 1970s split-level near Homestead Road showed 3,800 CFM50 before work and 2,100 after sealing and re-insulating. The homeowner’s cooling load dropped measurably.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Johns Manville attic insulation replacements in Cupertino run $2,800 to $5,400 for a typical 1,400 to 2,400 square foot home. The low end covers adding loose-fill fiberglass over existing stable insulation with basic top-plate sealing. The high end includes full removal of contaminated or compressed material, complete attic floor air sealing of can lights, top plates, and penetrations, then new blown-in to R-38 or R-49 per Title 24.

What drives the range: access difficulty (steep roof pitch, limited scuttle opening), existing insulation condition requiring removal, and whether rodent proofing is needed. Every job gets a Written Price Before Any Work Starts, no exceptions. We publish before-and-after blower-door numbers on every applicable job so you see the CFM50 change, not just hear about it. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation, and you receive a Documented Photo Record plus the written scope before anyone starts.

You can safely check your attic insulation depth with a ruler and photograph any product labels you find. Do not disturb vermiculite or any gray, pebbly loose-fill installed before 1990, as it may contain asbestos. Beyond that, the work gets problematic fast. Blown-in fiberglass requires a commercial blower and proper PPE; without it, you’ll get uneven coverage, compressed R-value loss, and irritated lungs. More importantly, insulation covers problems but does not fix them. We regularly find unsealed top plates, open chase ways, and recessed can lights dumping conditioned air into attics across Cupertino. Blowing new Johns Manville over those leaks is just burying the real issue. Seal the leaks first. Insulation covers problems; it does not fix them.
