Wes Okafor - Owner
I started this operation in 2016 after watching a competitor blow fiberglass over unsealed top plates in a Cupertino Eichler. The homeowner paid for R-38 and got a sieve. That same week I filed the paperwork for what became Topside Attic Insulation Cupertino, operating under The Haven Standard. I hold a BPI Building Analyst certification and I still climb into attics on initial assessments because I don’t trust secondhand descriptions of rodent damage or moisture staining. My wife says I inspect her mother’s house every Thanksgiving. She’s not wrong. I keep a photo on my phone from a 2019 job on Rainbow Drive: 4,200 CFM50 before air sealing, 1,950 after. I show it to new hires so they understand what “documented result” actually means.
Marcus T. - Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us since 2019, which in this trade means he’s seen the full evolution from cellulose-dominant installs to the hybrid spray-foam and blown-in systems we use now in Cupertino’s newer construction. He’s OSHA-10 certified and specializes in radiant barrier installation in attics with limited clearance, the kind you find in Monta Vista ranch homes built in the 1960s where a full-grown adult can’t stand upright. Marcus grew up in San Jose and played offensive line at De Anza College before a knee injury ended that path. He’ll tell you that crawling a 24-inch crawl space in Saratoga is easier than two-a-days in August, but he’ll say it once and then get to work.
Diana R. - Senior Installer
Diana came to us from a commercial insulation crew in Oakland in 2021, bringing experience with dense-pack cellulose in historic building envelopes that translates directly to the retrofit work we do in Cupertino’s older neighborhoods like Garden Gate and Seven Springs. She’s certified in spray foam application through Demilec and handles our more complex envelope jobs where we’re insulating knee walls, bonus rooms, and conditioned attics. Diana lives in Sunnyvale and commutes by motorcycle, which means she’s the only team member who worries about road temperature before attic temperature. She keeps a spreadsheet of every blower-door number she’s personally recorded: 847 jobs as of last count.
James K. - Service Coordinator
James answers the phones and schedules the work, which sounds administrative until you understand that he’s the person who explains Haven Standard Clause 1 to every new caller: written price, written scope, written warranty before anyone lifts a tool. He’s been with us since 2020 and knows the difference between a homeowner who needs a full energy audit and one who needs a rodent-proofing assessment first. James was born in Cupertino, graduated from Cupertino High in 2014, and can usually estimate drive time to any neighborhood within five minutes. He keeps a printed map of the city on his desk despite having lived here his entire life. He says it’s for the zoning boundaries, but we suspect he just likes paper.
Elena V. - Apprentice Installer
Elena joined us in 2024 after completing the HVAC program at San Jose City College and deciding she wanted to work on the envelope side of building performance rather than the mechanical side. She’s currently completing her BPI Envelope Professional certification and works primarily with Marcus on air-sealing detail work: top plates, recessed can lights, plumbing and electrical penetrations. Elena grew up in a 1952 tract home in Santa Clara where her father never once sealed the attic hatch, and she uses that house as her personal reference for what not to do. She takes the photos for our Documented Photo Record on every job she works, and she’s developed a particular skill for making blown-in cellulose look like it was laid by a machine with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
